Hospitals to work for in New York: 3 of the best

For years, New York City has been recognized as the city that never sleeps. There is also no truer saying when referring to its hospitals. Home to one of the top five hospitals across the United States, New York is host to many facilities attracting healthcare workers from across the globe.

Here are the top three facilities that many local and travel nurses choose to work in across New York:

1. NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital

Based in NYC, NewYork-Presbyterian is the largest not-for-profit hospital in the United States. Hosting 2,600+ beds, NYP’s 20,000+ employees look after over 2 million patients every year, managing over 15,000 infant deliveries and over 300,000 emergency department visits.

NYP has seven different campuses across the city:

  • NewYork-Presbyterian Columbia University Irving Medical Center
  • NewYork-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center
  • NewYork-Presbyterian Allen Hospital
  • NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital

Several NewYork-Presbyterian facilities have received national recognition for excellence in nursing from the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet Recognition Program. This gold-standard recognition has only been awarded to 8% of hospitals across the United States.

2. NYU Langone Hospitals

Located in the heart of Manhattan, NYC, NYU Langone Hospital is one of the most premier academic medical centers in the United States. Hosting over 1,350 beds across all facilities, the hospital group also employs over 20,000 employees.

NYU Langone is ranked in the top 10 in the United States for its orthopedic, neurology & neurosurgery, rehabilitation, and rheumatology services, making it an excellent choice for patients but also medical students, specializing in these fields.

NYU Langone has six main inpatient facilities across New York:

They have also received a 5-star rating for safety, quality and patient experience from the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). NYU physicians are regularly recognized in New York magazine’s ‘Best Doctors’ annual feature and their nursing services have received a Magnet status from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

3. Mount Sinai

Mount Sinai is one of the oldest and largest teaching hospitals in the United States. Hosting over 3,800 beds, Mount Sinai employs over 42,000 staff, with medical experts helping to deliver over 16,000 infants and manage over 500,000 emergency admissions.

Mount Sinai has eight main facilities across New York:

  • Mount Sinai Beth Israel
  • Mount Sinai Brooklyn
  • The Mount Sinai Hospital (Including Kravis Children’s Hospital)
  • Mount Sinai Morningside
  • Mount Sinai Queens
  • Mount Sinai West
  • New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai
  • Mount Sinai South Nassau

In 2020, Mount Sinai was recognized as the best hospital in the United States for geriatric services. It was also ranked in the top 10 for cardiology and gastroenterology services.

Mount Sinai has also been recognized as a Magnet-accredited facility by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. It is ranked as one of the top facilities in the United States by organizations such as Newsweek and U.S. News & World. They have also received numerous awards for diversity and inclusion from the likes of Forbes, Human Rights Campaign Foundation and INSIGHT into Diversity.
